You Do, I Watch
My wife and I both were driver instructors for our son and daughter. I did better with our son because he operates more military like. He adjust all of his mirrors, sets his phone down in the drink holder, does a quick scan of his surroundings. My daughter aka the Hippie, freaked me out. We had her drive us to her grandparents while she had her permit. After watching my wife grab the wheel for the 20th time on state route 243, I realized I had lived a good and full life since this was the end for me. Over the last few years with some intensive hands-on training, hitting a parked car and few poles, she has finally become a decent driver. After all the training, I now watch her drive off each weekend to head back to college.
After his intensive three-year “training camp,” Jesus commissioned the disciples to go out and make disciples of all nations (Matt. 28:19). Though He wouldn’t be physically present with them anymore, He told them He would always be with them in Spirit (Matt. 28:20). Jesus demonstrated His confidence in the disciples by entrusting them with carrying on His mission after He returned to Heaven. He had prepared them for this moment. Just as we had to let her drive solo to grow in independence, Jesus allowed the disciples to do ministry without His physical oversight so they could lead others.
Prayer for the Day
God what are you showing me? What am I going to do about it?
God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
