“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. (Revelation 3:20)
I try to eat every week or two with a group of guys that I used to coach with (I know…more football talk, but it’s football season baby!). It all started when one of the guys said we need to try to get together and eat somewhere. Why did he initiate that? Because we are all good friends. I actually have a few different groups that I try to share a meal or coffee with every week or so. You wanna why? Because when you’re friends with people, you enjoy just hanging out and talking (and eating!)
What you read in Revelation above reveals amazing insight into the relationship God desires with us, the key part of His creation. Do you know that God wants to be friends with you? Just as a friend would ask you out to a meal, God really does want to spend time with you…Every day. Since I believe Jesus was fully God on Earth, He doubles down on this idea with His followers. Towards the end of His life, He said, “No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.” What did Jesus constantly do? He shared meal with His followers (and friends). The story of the gospel is God losing relationship with the crown of his creation, you and me, and through the death of Jesus gaining restored relationship with us. He has been working tirelessly from the very first sin just to be able to call you and me friends again. What you desire from friends around you is completely available to you in God and to even greater depths! That’s pretty good news!
Prayer for the Day
God what are you showing me? What am I going to do about it?
God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
