“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (Thessalonians 5:18)
Gratitude isn’t just for the good times. It’s a lifestyle choice that shifts our focus from what we lack to all the amazing things we have because of Jesus. This shift doesn’t ignore reality but chooses to find God’s grace within it.
Robert Emmons wrote a book called Gratitude Works! He says:
“Think about and then write down those aspects of your life that you are prone to take for granted. Instead, take them as granted.”
Ungrateful people tend to take things (and people!) for granted.
So why not incorporate gratitude into your daily routine. Start or end your day by listing three things you’re thankful for. This simple practice can transform your outlook, and help you increase contentment and joy in God’s love for you. I haven’t done it lately, but I took several months last year to write down 3 things I was thankful for every single night. Cheesy? Sure! But I noticed that my own mindset began to change in a much more positive way. Maybe try it. What’s the worst thing that could happen? You become more thankful, joyful and hopeful like you were designed to live! Maybe just take a few minutes to pray and thank God for everything you’ve been blessed with!
Don’t forget this week’s Chasing Epic Challenge is to slow down and take 5 minutes or more to pray. The Epic Life app can guide you.
Prayer for the Day
God what are you showing me? What am I going to do about it?
God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
