READ: 1 Samuel 16:1-13 The nation of Israel was looking for a leader. God sent the prophet Samuel to the house of Jesse in Bethlehem to anoint a new king. God warned Samuel not to be concerned with outward appearances, because what he cared about was the heart. After rejecting all but one of Jesse’s sons, God chose the youngest, a shepherd boy named David, to be king. And “from that day on the Spirit of the LORD came powerfully upon David.” Underdogs lean into God’s grace because they know they can’t succeed by relying on their own abilities. Today, identify an area in your life where you feel like an underdog. Ask God to search your heart, and tell him you can’t overcome whatever it is that you’re facing by yourself. Lean into God’s grace, and trust that his power will work through you.]]>
