So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. (John 13:34)

“What Would You Do?” an ABC hidden camera show, filmed some episodes at two Charleston locations.  The premise of the show, now in its 16th season, is that people are unknowingly faced with awkward and ethically challenging situations portrayed by actors. They decide whether to speak up or mind their own business.  Social media has recently been blowing up with both the positive and negative reactions of certain people about a homeless lady asking for food.

Thinking about food and people in need, I was in a restaurant a few weeks ago and saw several bills stuck to the wall that had “paid” written on them.  I found out that it meant that several people go into that restaurant and pre-pay for someone else’s meal.  That’s a pretty amazing thing, but then I started thinking I wonder who started this whole thing.  The first meal that was paid probably didn’t look super impressive, yet there were close to twenty free meals when I was there!  Those twenty meals probably aren’t going to blow up on social media, but they are amazing nonetheless.

Love is a language that transcends all barriers. We might think that imagining a world where every interaction is infused with genuine care and compassion, regardless of circumstances came from John Lennon but it was Jesus.  This is the essence of loving without limits—choosing to love others as Jesus loves us, without reservation or condition.  This new commandment calls us to a radical way of living, where love is not just a feeling but an action. It challenges us to extend grace, forgiveness, and kindness to everyone we meet, especially those who may seem undeserving. By doing so, we not only transform our own hearts but also become instruments of God’s love in the world around us.

Don’t forget this week’s Chasing Epic Challenge for one random act of kindness for someone you don’t know.

Prayer for the Day

God what are you  showing me?  What am I going to do about it?

God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
