Ask God what He wants to show you before reading today

10 but the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. 11 The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! (Luke 2:10-11)
My wife loves the Beatles. I recently read a heartbreaking story about John Lennon. Did you know that he wrote a desperate note to a televangelist? In 1972, Lennon reached out to Oral Roberts, a famous television minister, and confessed his drug addiction and hopelessness. In that letter, Lennon wrote these words: “I want happiness. I don’t want to keep on with drugs … Can God love me? I want out of hell.”
There are moments in all of our lives when that same question crosses our minds. Maybe it’s in the sobering moments during an addiction when we realize how many times we’ve messed up and how many lives we’ve messed up. Or perhaps it’s the realization that most of our youth was spent pursuing our own glory, building our own kingdom, and seeking our own will with barely a thought of God’s will or God’s Word. In a million different ways, the devil accuses us with the question, “Can God really love a person like you?” Sadly, we believe that lie that God’s value of us is based on what we’ve done (or even what we do). Thankfully, that’s not the good news! What is the answer then?
The answer. “But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord’” (Luke 2:10,11). Notice the key word all.
All includes John Lennon. All includes me. All includes you. Think about these words as the Spirit answers the most important question of all. Can God love me? In Jesus, He has, does, and always will.
Prayer for the Day
God what are you showing me? What am I going to do about it?
God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
