“Be still, and know that I am God!” (Psalm 46:10)

In our fast-paced world, the idea of being still seems almost revolutionary. Yet, the invitation to know God more deeply comes in the quiet moments, in the intentional pause from our cluttered routines. This stillness isn’t about inactivity but about creating space to recognize God’s presence and sovereignty amidst our chaos. It’s in these moments we’re reminded of His love and grace, which are always available but often missed in the hurry.

In the book The Compound Effect, Darren Hardy makes the important point that we have more control over the very beginnings of our day and the very ends of our days than we do over the middle of the days. He calls those “Bookends.” If we want to create a life of living more on purpose, we’d be wise to start with those bookends! That’s what Jesus seems to do time and time again in the Bible.

Practically, this might mean starting your day with a moment of silence, dedicating it to listening for God’s voice before the rush begins. It’s about choosing to pause, even briefly, to acknowledge His presence in your daily activities. This simple act can transform your perspective, helping you to see the grace and love of Jesus in every moment and encounter throughout your day. So… What would your optimal AM bookend look like?

Don’t forget this week’s Chasing Epic Challenge is to slow down and take 5 minutes or more to pray.  The Epic Life app can guide you.

Prayer for the Day

God what are you  showing me?  What am I going to do about it?

God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
