A man with leprosy came and knelt in front of Jesus, begging to be healed. “If you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean,” (Mark 1:40)

My son and one of his college teammates stayed at our home this past week for Spring Break.  I would crack up at night listening to these two 20 year olds talk about girls, dating and why it’s way harder to have a relationship now than it was when I was their age.  They may be right, but my advice still holds true and I repeated it often, just “shoot your shot”.

According to the Urban Dictionary, this is the definition:
Shoot Your Shot
To be brave and have the audacity to do something that might be embarrassing. “Shooting your shot” takes motivation; it means that you only have one chance to do something before you lose that chance.

Maybe that’s what I love so much about the leper in Mark 1.  According to the law, he should have yelled unclean and kept at least 150 foot distance from anyone that wasn’t a leper.  But he had heard about a man that was different .  One that could do miracles…and when you’re desperate, who cares.

Could you imagine other lepers?  “What if Jesus or his followers kill you for getting too close?”  He might have replied, “I’m already dead”.  Desperation has a funny way of motivating us sometimes.  But my favorite part is that he simply decided to “shoot his shot” and it changed everything!  Look for ways this week to be bold and step out.  Who knows…it might change everything!

Don’t forget this week’s Chasing Epic Challenge is to bless at least three people with a kind word, random act of kindness or gift.  Put others first.

Prayer for the Day

God what are you  showing me?  What am I going to do about it?

God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
