Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10)

I have a large debt that I’m a little embarrassed about.  I owe 798 burpees to a group of guys that I work out with.  Why?  Because they said at the beginning of the year that I would owe 15 burpees for every minute I’m late.  You can do the math of how much I’ve been on time.  Even more sad, we also only work out two days a week together.  The accountability they “try” to give me working out is the same we need in our lives too!

Connecting with others is really important for us to live the way God wants us to. But it’s not just about having casual friendships. Nowadays, it seems like everywhere you look, people are just kind of hanging out without really committing to each other. You see it a lot with all those dating apps. But these casual connections don’t usually give us what we really need. They don’t support us or push us to be better. They’re not the kind of friendships that really make life better, the kind that Jesus wants for us.

That is what God’s design for a church body is all about: creating environments where authentic community can take place, building transformative communities where people can experience oneness with God and with one another. As the Bible says in Ecclesiastes 4, when we have others with us, they can help us when we fall. And let’s face it, we’re all going to mess up sometimes. When we’re connected to others, it’s harder to lose our way because we have people who are committed to helping us through the tough times. They’re not going to give up on us, even if we try to run away. They’ll stick with us because they care.

Don’t forget this week’s Chasing Epic Challenge is to connect with a group by scheduling a time this week to share a meal or at least hang out with a group.

Prayer for the Day

God what are you  showing me?  What am I going to do about it?

God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
