God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. (Ephesians 1:5)

I watched the ESPN 30 for 30 on the wrestler the Nature Boy aka Ric Flair this past weekend.  The real reason I wanted to watch it was because my dad and my brothers loved NWA wrestling when we were growing up. Most kids were into the WWF (World Wrestling Federation) with Hulk Hogan and its fancy production, but we preferred what seemed more like blue collar guys in a weekly street fight.  Ric Flair vs. Dusty Rhodes, The Nature Boy vs. The American Dream…need I say more?

However, one part of the documentary hit me.  Flair talked about being adopted and not really connecting with his parents.  Then he said, “but it never bothered me”.  However, so much of the documentary seemed to point to the fact that maybe it did bother him.

What if we sometimes believe the lie and start thinking God the Father doesn’t really care about us.   I read something really interesting about adoption that got me thinking more about the verse above.   It said that there are a few states in the United States that have adoption laws and protections specifically for kids who’ve been adopted and their adoptive parent dies. When a parent writes a will, they can later on write their biological child out of the will, but if it’s an adopted child they cannot. The state actually gives more protection and security to the adopted child.

That’s a pretty cool picture of us with God. Paul is trying to give a big picture look at a Father that not only wants you but He’s willing to pay an incredible amount so you can be His kid.   How awesome is that? What would today look like if you truly believed that?

Prayer for the Day

God what are you  showing me?  What am I going to do about it?

God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
