Read The Daily
and you say, ‘He’s a glutton and a drunkard, and a friend of tax collectors and other sinners! (Matthew 11:19)
Congratulations on taking your first step in living an Epic Life!
When you read the words “Epic Life” what comes to mind? Do you get excited…or roll your eyes because it’s just another unrealistic and lofty goal that people say that doesn’t actually work in the real world? But what if you could really live an Epic Life and even better, you wouldn’t have to add a ton of things to your already busy schedule and you wouldn’t even have to quit your day job…matter of fact, it’s probably better if you don’t quit and stay where you’re at right now.
About two thousand years ago, a guy named Jesus lived an Epic Life. Here’s the crazy part…He actually says that we can also live that same life, even going as far as to say we would do more than He did! If you’re anything like me, I can promise I’ve never been confused for Jesus so we can already dismiss this whole thing as impossible…right? But what if Jesus actually meant what He said, “I came so you can have real and eternal life, a better life than they ever dreamed of. An Epic Life.
So how do we live this life? Church people call it discipleship, but most people I know don’t like that word or get confused by it. Let’s define discipleship a little easier. A disciple is someone who is intentionally learning to become and live and love more like Jesus. Since Jesus said the greatest life you could live is living like Him, then maybe we should reconsider how we are living our lives.
Now a quick disclaimer…most of my closest friends want nothing to do with the church, church people or Christians. Depending on your background…you may have some strong and maybe even negative opinions when you hear someone say church, Christian or even Jesus. But what if our concept and opinions about Jesus are wrong?
Do you know what Jesus’s nickname was? It was “Friend” (Matthew 11:16–19). More specifically, “Friend of Sinners.” Who gave Jesus that nickname? Religious people and leaders who watched how He lived His life and didn’t like it. But apparently Jesus liked it so much that He kept it! It was easy for “Friend of Sinners” to stick because everywhere Jesus went, that’s what He did.
Jesus’ entire life was a rhythm of befriending and blessing
That’s the journey we are going to start. Living an Epic Life…a real and better life than you could have ever dreamed of! We want to simplify the amazing life that Jesus offers and give you a plan with a few steps along the way. The first week of our journey is all about understanding our identity and why it’s a “Get To” and not a “Got To”
Prayer for the Day
God what are you showing me? What am I going to do about it?
God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
