But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer. (Luke 5:16)

I know a guy that says he’s been happily married for over 3 years…granted, he’s been married a total of 30 years but happily for 3 of them lol. My wife and I have been married for over 20 years. Do you know the secret to it all?

Time.

Sometimes it’s time that is planned and sometimes it’s spontaneous. To build a relationship with anyone, you will need to invest time. As a parent, ideally, you will help your children with their homework, play with them, laugh, love, discipline, and teach them the secrets of life. If you are looking for a spouse, you will go on dates, walk, talk, kiss, and you know…other stuff. Relationships take time, lots of it.

The same principle holds true for our relationship with God. Although Jesus was the only Son of God, we see Him, too, leaving the busyness of life to spend time with His Father as we just read above. The key word is that Jesus “often” withdrew.
Do you spend time with God on a daily basis? He wants to spend time with you.

Let’s be honest though…it takes time, energy to feel close to someone we can’t see or hear. It’s almost as if He is whispering to us in a foreign language behind a screen. Our times with God force us to shift our focus from a crazy loud world that’s in our face to an invisible God in another dimension, a spiritual dimension.

I’m convinced you can learn to lean into a close relationship with God, but it will take time. I want to encourage you to carve out time every day to tune into the “still small voice” (1 Kings 19:12, ). That’s why on the app, we have built in a daily time to slow down and reflect and listen to what God may be saying to you. There’s also a part to start by spending at least 5 minutes (or more) a week learning to just listen to what God might want to say to you. I’m praying these moments in silence with God will become some of your most productive times of the day.

Prayer for the Day

God what are you  showing me?  What am I going to do about it?

God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
