“Don’t worry or be anxious about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done” (Philippians 4:6)
My older brother once got bit by a poisonous snake while working out in a field. The worst part is the “genius” didn’t stop working and didn’t do anything to treat it. His leg ended up swelling and he got really sick for a few days. Fast forward a few years and we are at the beach watching a snake demonstration and the professional says if you ever get bit by a snake, make sure that you seek medical attention immediately because it can be life-threatening. However, there is an antidote for the venom. My brother looks at me and says, “it’s not that big of a deal”. Notice the difference between my “brother” and the “professional”. I’d always take the professional’s advice. There’s also a poison that makes many of us really sick as well. It’s called anxiety.
Anxiety is one of the biggest emotional problems that anyone can suffer from. It comes from a fear of the unknown or impending doom. Anxiety can be crippling, especially in the days we are living in now. The pandemic, riots, and racial tensions have thrust most of us into a high-anxiety state.
Prayer is God’s antidote for worry. We can cast every care upon Him. We can thrust upon Him everything that is causing us anxiety. If we can’t control it or change it, God can. “Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible’” (Matthew 19:26). God cares about your life and future. He wants you to focus on vision, compassion, love, and your calling. He’ll take care of the rest. God is so great.
So here’s today’s simple tip to spend time with God: pray instead of worry. You can’t control every person or every situation, but you can let go and let God handle it. You’ll be surprised by the outcome and the peace that will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus. You will be more productive and have less stress. Your faith will grow because you can trust God with every concern and care.
Prayer for the Day
God what are you showing me? What am I going to do about it?
God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
