That Last Gatorade Is Yours! | Thursday

Week 1 | Follow You

Take a Moment

Ask God what He wants to show you before reading today

Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. (Colossians 3:12-14)

I was a stingy kid.  If any of my friends came over, I would get upset if they would eat any of our food or snacks.  Ok..maybe I wasn’t stingy, but just a chubby kid that didn’t want others eating my food lol.   However, one of my best friends named Jeremiah (like the bullfrog) was polar opposite.  I remember being at his house once and he had one bottle of Gatorade left in the fridge.  Without hesitation, he said, “you can have it”.  I remember thinking, “I would never have done that!”  It’s amazing how even small acts of selflessness can inspire all of us.

Think for a minute how patient and kind Jesus has been with knuckleheads like us. Only one word will suffice: “mercy.” He saw our weakness and sorry condition and didn’t despise us. The gospel’s message of unconditional love is what made us believers; that message also inspires us to show that same kindness and mercy to people around us. But do it in the right spirit. Grudging kindness does not please God. Freely have we received; freely should we give. A truly generous spirit doesn’t calculate what he or she might get back from the act of mercy but simply enjoys passing on God’s resources to someone whose need is urgent. A truly generous spirit knows that we are blessed to be a blessing.

This week you will probably come into contact with someone who is ill, broken, exhausted, or struggling (or may just want the last Gatorade). Let God use and bless the time, money, and love that you invest in them.

Prayer for the Day

God what are you  showing me?  What am I going to do about it?

God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
