The Most Dangerous Lie You Can Believe | Wednesday

Week 2 | Don’t Worry, Be Happy

Take a Moment

Ask God what He wants to show you before reading today

So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.(1 Peter 5:6-7)

The ancient Greeks had a phrase, “The gods play and the people pay”.  I don’t agree, but it’s  actually a pretty logical conclusion to make sense of how there could be a god (or gods) in control and yet, bad things still happen.  However, according to Jesus, our Father in heaven loves us more than we could ever imagine.  I like to believe that and want to believe that…until the storm hits.  It’s in those moments we start to question how could a truly good and loving God allow such bad things to happen to us and/or others.  We believe the biggest lie of the enemy.  God has abandoned us and doesn’t care.

Here’s the good news!  God cares for us in the midst of the storm.  Although it’s easy to start thinking that God is a distant God, God reveals Himself as the opposite: He is intimately acquainted with our lives and cares about us. At the peak of the storm, the disciples wake up Jesus and ask Him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”  Some of the hardest times in my life have been in the middle of a huge storm and even though I’m begging Jesus to help me, it feels like He’s asleep or worse, nowhere to be found. In the story, immediately, Jesus gets up, rebukes the wind and the waves and it is instantly calm. He says to His disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” His care for us is the reason we can bring everything to Him. I have learned that sometimes Jesus calms the storm all around me, but sometimes He calms the storm inside of me, and the second might be a bigger miracle.

Prayer for the Day

God what are you  showing me?  What am I going to do about it?

God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
