It’s A Gift! | Wednesday

Week 4 | “9 To 5”

Listen instead of reading

Ask God what He wants to show you before reading today

Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it. So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content. (1 Timothy 6:6-8)

“It’s A Gift”.

Those three words are something I try to get in the habit of saying to myself anytime I go into compare..or compete…or even complain mode.  Everything I have is truly a gift from God.  Even my problems stem from things that other people would love to have themselves. Comparison drops you at the dead-end of discontentment every single time. Whether you come out on top and feel guilty, or don’t measure up and feel short-changed, comparison always leaves you dissatisfied.  But there’s a secret to overcoming it: gratitude. The shortcut to contentment is thanking God aka “It’s a gift”, and it works no matter which side of comparison you’re on.

How? It’s an instant perspective adjustment. When comparison makes you feel short-changed, gratitude can shift your focus to all the blessings you do have. And when you’ve been blessed with a lot, thanking God puts you in the humble posture needed to use those gifts well. Comparison is out to steal your contentment. But the habit of expressing gratitude is an easy way out of its trap.

Prayer for the Day

God what are you  showing me?  What am I going to do about it?

God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
