Keeping Pace or Keeping Peace? | Thursday

Week 4 | “9 To 5”

Listen instead of reading

Take a Moment

Ask God what He wants to show you before reading today

Read The Daily

And I’ll sit back and say to myself, “My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come. Now take it easy! Eat, drink, and be merry!”’ “But God said to him, ‘You fool! (Luke 12:19-20)

No matter what you’re tempted to compare, there will always be someone with more than you and there will always be someone with less. Whether you compare husbands or hair, there will always be someone else to envy and someone envying you.

So you have a choice: either keep pace or keep peace.

Comparison will tempt you to keep pace, to accumulate more. The daily verse is from a parable that Jesus told to a group of people.  A man has a surplus of crops and decides the best plan is to live the rest of his days for himself.  This parable illustrates that accumulating more is a worthless pursuit if what you’re accumulating isn’t put to good use for God’s purposes.

The wise choice is peace with what God has entrusted to you.  In some areas, he’s given you more than others—maybe you’re a talented singer or gifted writer. In other ways, you may come up short—perhaps you had a challenging childhood or disappointing marriage. But God isn’t asking you to change what you’ve been given. He asks you to use what you’ve been given.  Whether a lot or a little, what you have is less important than what you do with what you have.

Prayer for the Day

God what are you  showing me?  What am I going to do about it?

God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
