Week 2 | Reframe It

I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. (Psalm 27:13)

Post by Aaron Fields

As we wrap up the week, it’s easy to let the frustrations and disappointments of the past few days cloud our perspective. But what if, instead of focusing on what went wrong, we made a deliberate choice to look for God’s goodness? The truth is, we often find exactly what we’re looking for. If you seek negativity, you’ll find it. But if you seek God’s hand at work, you’ll see His goodness shining through even the most challenging circumstances.  Think about it like this: The world is full of both beauty and brokenness. You can choose to be like a vulture, who soars through the sky only to seek out what is dead and decaying. Or you can be like a hummingbird, who goes from flower to flower, seeking the sweet nectar that sustains life. The choice is yours. What are you looking for in your life? The answer will determine what you find.

This concept is known as cognitive reframing, and it’s about interpreting your circumstances based on the truth of God’s word. A counselor might tell you that you have the power to determine the meaning of what happens to you. But as believers, we have something even better: We can let Jesus help us determine the meaning.  When something difficult happens, instead of defaulting to a negative perspective, ask yourself: Where is God in this? How is He working? When you start to look for His goodness, you’ll be amazed at how often and how clearly it appears. It could be in a small act of kindness, in a lesson learned, or even in the strength you gain from enduring a trial.

Looking for God’s goodness isn’t just about changing your outlook—it’s about transforming your entire approach to life. Your relationships will improve as you start to see the good in others. Your attitude will shift as you focus on blessings instead of burdens. And your impact will grow as you become a person who radiates hope and faith, no matter what life throws your way.  As you head into the weekend, make it your mission to look for God’s goodness. It’s there, waiting to be discovered. And as you train your eyes to see it, you’ll find that your heart is filled with a deeper sense of peace, gratitude, and joy.

Prayer for the Day

God what are you  showing me?  What am I going to do about it?

God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
