Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. (Matthew 6:20)
Football has been my favorite sport since I started playing in 3rd grade. I always dreamed of being All-State, then on to the USA All-American team and finally I was going to sign to play for Notre Dame. Just barely missed that one lol. Both of my brothers were named All-Ohio in high school and I was…well, honorable mention… All-District. I remember a coach telling me congratulations and I thought, “for what?” I always wanted to be gifted in something.
Gifted people have the ability to change companies, families, sports teams, schools, science labs and society. I still watch and admire people who are so gifted at music or sports or acting. These gifted individuals are generally richly rewarded by society for their talents. Society values certain gifts but others, not so much. Teachers, missionaries, social workers and many more gifted and dedicated people may not be rewarded as much. However, God’s value and reward system is way different from our society’s.
God loves to give us talents, but He rewards faithfulness, kindness, integrity, diligence, generosity and compassion. So don’t compare the size of your wallet to others’. Don’t be jealous of the man or woman who seems to have more talent. I’m not the most talented or gifted person in the world. I can’t play an instrument or sing. I’m not handy with tools, engine repair or any household chores, but I “try” to help under the suggestion of my wife. I wasn’t the smartest, best-looking (unless you ask Sweet Baby J 😜) or most athletic. Can you relate? It’s not how many gifts you have; it’s how you use those gifts that God rewards. “The man with two bags of gold also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.’ “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’” (Matthew 25:22-23) The story of the talents should boost your spirit today. Whether you have five amazing talents or just one, use your talent(s) with faith, courage and generosity and watch what God can do with you. Because in God’s eyes, you’re a miracle.
Prayer for the Day
God what are you showing me? What am I going to do about it?
God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
