Ask God what He wants to show you before reading today

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. (James 1:5)

My first football coaching job was with a group of 5th and 6th grade boys while I was still in college.  I was young and knew everything there was to coaching and winning.  My motto was “I can’t make them win, but I sure can make them not want to lose”.  I was old school Bear Bryant on steroids…with elementary kids.  I tortured those poor kids.  One day a few weeks into practice, my dad, who had coached most of his life came down and immediately left.  He came back about 10 minutes later with Giovanni’s pizzas and announced practice was over.  It was pizza time.  I was furious!  He then said something I’ll never forget.  “You can’t always be negative and drive players in the ground. They need to know you care about them, believe them and most importantly, they need to believe in themselves.”   My mom has a similar phrase, “Nobody cares what you know until they first know you care”   Pretty good wisdom from my father and mother that I try to remind myself constantly when leading others.

Even better, your heavenly Father is perfectly wise. Everything He does is perfect. Every thought and idea He has is filled with complete wisdom. What’s more, through the Holy Spirit you have access to that wisdom. Your God loves you so much that he’s just waiting to share that same wisdom on you.  He never wants you to suffer from a lack of knowledge. So often, we are taught that God only reveals to us what we absolutely have to know right before we need to know it. But that’s not the truth of the Bible.  James 1:5 proves that. Your God gives his wisdom “generously!”

Prayer for the Day

God what are you  showing me?  What am I going to do about it?

God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
