We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully. (Romans 12:6-8)

I was talking to a friend Sunday afternoon about Aaron’s message, and how it was really encouraging. Talking about Spiritual Gifts interests me, and I’m always curious to talk to others about the gifts that God gave them. My friend did not share the same enthusiasm. When I asked them what their Spiritual Gifts were they responded with “I don’t have any.” Me being the upbeat, nearly annoying, person that I am said “Oh yes you do! God gives everyone a spiritual gift, sometimes more than one!” Their next response was truly heartbreaking, “No, God didn’t give me any gifts”, then quickly changed the conversation.
As the week has gone on I’m still bothered thinking about that conversation. My friend really believes that God just skipped over them, and they have no gift to share with others. However they don’t see what others see around them. I have personally witnessed my friend give and serve so many, most of the time it is done quietly and anonymously. I’m no religious scholar, but from what I see my friend has been given the gifts of serving and giving. It’s easy to look at the things we do everyday as just something we do, but what if we look at it from God’s point of view. If what we are doing is exactly what God intended for us.
Everyone is on a unique spiritual journey with God. God has a plan for each person’s life that plays a specific part in His master plan. He knows each of us perfectly, so He knows which gifts are part of His plan to work in the world through them. Spiritual gifts don’t have to be upfront and center spot light to be a gift from God. Sometimes we just need to see that it’s the small words of encouragement that we give as our gift, or that we are good at serving others, or giving to those in need as our gift. It’s most often that the smallest gifts carry the most meaning. God has given you the perfect gift, and he’s waiting for you to open it!
Prayer for the Day
God what are you showing me? What am I going to do about it?
God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
