I was having breakfast with a friend of mine a few months ago when a certain person’s name was brought up. I like the guy really well, but he has a personality that many people don’t like. I paused and said, “I know he can be pretty hard core, but I really like him”. He immediately responded, “I don’t care what anyone says about him, he’s good in my book because he was so good to a family member when they were struggling”. At that moment, I realized that our kindness has incredible power in other people’s lives to make an impact.
Kindness is also a way for us to show love and keep the command to love others as Jesus has already loved us. Kindness can take on many different forms from encouraging words to spending time or money to help others. Sometimes kindness may be valued by others. Other times it may go unnoticed or even unappreciated. However, when we are showing others kindness it should not be in hopes of something in return or to show other people how kind we are. Rather, our kindness should come from a genuine place of love, not expecting a reward but instead striving to please God and care for others.
Prayer for the Day
God what are you showing me? What am I going to do about it?
God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
