So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. (John 13:34)
I want to share with you a scouting report from the NBA in 2009. This motivated me, so I decided to share it with my kids also. This is the breakdown of a player you may never have heard of:
Not a true point guard.
Out of control at times.
Poor Shot-selection.
Stuck between 1 and 2 position.
Ability to defend position at next level is questionable
Lateral quickness lacking.
Versatility to defend multiple positions. Limited upside
Probable Backup/Fringe Starter?
College system makes him difficult to evaluate.
Average athleticism.
Average size.
Average wingspan.
Frail frame.
Relies too heavily on outside shot.
This was an actual list of Steph Curry’s weaknesses in a pre-draft scouting report by an NBA team. I’m glad that Steph Curry didn’t listen to the scouts, but I shared it with my kids for another reason. Several scouts were doubting Curry, but one scout made this comment: “If you knew and liked Steph, then you could see what he could become”.
What if we truly believed that Jesus knew us and liked us? What if Jesus sees through your pain, story, perspective, gifts and actually knows what you can become? Married couples I think are required to say “I love you” before you go to bed, leave, etc. But something my wife says that means the most to me is, “yes, I love you, but after all these years, I really like you” What if you could hear Jesus say today, “I love you, but I also really like you”. You’ll never fulfill your God given purpose until you realize how much He loves you.
Prayer for the Day
God what are you showing me? What am I going to do about it?
God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
