“But where sin increased, grace increased all the more” (Romans 5:20

Several years ago, we had a bathroom sink malfunction where the water kept dripping and our drain bypass was clogged.  You could imagine the fear of waking up and seeing your sink about a half inch from overflowing all over the bathroom floor.  It left such a scar in my memory that I will now shut off all bathroom water before we leave for any extended trip.  Now imagine how crazy it would have been for me to see the sink filling up that morning and just turning on the faucet wide open, and watching the water spill everywhere. Instead of stopping the water, you just let it keep pouring—onto the floor, into the hallway, everywhere! That’s what God’s grace is like—it spills out  and just keeps going, even when life gets messy.

On Sunday, we talked about how God’s grace is like Niagara Falls, constantly flowing, never running out. You don’t just get a little splash of grace; you get drenched in it. And when life feels like it’s too much—when you feel like you’re making a mess—God’s grace still overflows. There’s no shortage. It keeps pouring out, covering everything, no matter how big the mess. This is the beauty of grace too.  It not only increases for the messes in our life, it is also our source for growth.  Paul told the church in Ephesus that the best way to live out this new life with power was to constantly be reminded of how deep, long, wide and great Jesus’ love is for us.  Maybe that’s not a bad reminder for all of us today either. Where in your life do you feel like you are running on empty? How can you open yourself up to be reminded of the endless flow of God’s grace?

Prayer for the Day

God what are you  showing me?  What am I going to do about it?

God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
