“There is no Condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1)
Post By Alisha Miller
It was my last year of college and things were crazy with Finals week. I was working a full time job, managing a household, and staying up until 3am trying to study. I was exhausted, and hanging on by a thread. I had just finished writing up a case study for my hematology class that was due by midnight. I hit save and my ancient computer froze right in the middle of the process. The next thing I know the screen went black, and I instantly panicked. I finally got it to come back on, but it only saved half of my work. I didn’t know what to do. It was 11:30 at night, and there was no way I could get it done in time. I had a lot of emotions going on in that moment, but guilt was probably the heaviest one. I knew for several weeks that paper was due, and I waited until the last minute to get it finished. It was my own fault, and I knew my professor would tell me the same thing. I emailed her and told her what had happened. I waited and waited for a reply from her, but it was late so I figured I would have to take an Incomplete on the assignment. I woke up the next morning to the best news I had that week. She had messaged back, and told me it was ok and she would extend the deadline to the end of the week. I’m not sure if she had more students pleading for help that night or she just decided to show me grace. I felt instant relief. The guilt that I was drowning in the night before was washed away, and I was flooded with hope and gratitude.
That’s what it’s like when we come to Jesus. All the guilt and shame we are drowning in is washed away. Jesus says “It’s ok, I’ve got you covered.” My favorite verse of all time says it best, Matthew 11:28-30, Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
You don’t have to live under the weight of guilt any longer. Just like my professor that showed me grace and freed me from my guilt and worry, God’s grace frees us from worrying about judgment.
Prayer for the Day
God what are you showing me? What am I going to do about it?
God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
