“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” – John 8:32

I was having a conversation with my wife on a long drive to Alabama this weekend and discussing how once you meet people from all over the country (and other countries), you realize that we are quite similar.  She then said when you teach in a classroom that every single student is different emotionally, with different personalities and even how they interact but they all really do want the same things.   We came to the conclusion that everyone on Earth is way more similar than they realize and so different at the exact same time.   Are you confused yet…because I’m starting to get confused just typing that 😂.

Here’s the point, we are all different in how we respond to pressure and show our emotions.  Some show it on their sleeve every second, while others seem like a closed book.  As I’m getting older, I find things seem to hit me a little harder or maybe I’m just becoming less of a robot and more of a human each day too.  However you show your emotions (or don’t), we all have them.  They are what makes humans and the world unique and exciting.  They are also a great gauge for navigating this ship called life, however they are a terrible captain to steer the ship.

Your feelings are a great gauge for navigating this ship called life, however they are a terrible captain to steer the ship.

Maybe you are having a great day and feel like you are doing well and God is pleased with you.  Then, someone at work makes a small comment that doesn’t sit well, you gossip about them to someone else and start feeling guilty.  Maybe God isn’t as pleased now.  Again, emotions help us to be human and interact with other humans, but they don’t change the truth that you are deeply loved and forgiven, not because of your actions but because of the truth of what Jesus promised us.  That’s why I love the daily verse above.  Jesus didn’t say that “your feelings (or emotions) will set you free”.  Matter of fact, I think they can imprison us at times.  He said that “the truth (what He says) will set you free”.   So try to let your emotions and feelings be a “Gauge” for your life, but let Jesus’ truth be the “Guide” for your life.  It’s the only way that any of us will ever find true freedom!

Prayer for the Day

God what are you  showing me?  What am I going to do about it?

God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
