“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:29-30)

Post by Alisha Miller

A few years ago, The Millers party of six decided to go to Disney world. We were all so excited and did all the research of the “must haves” to take into the park. We all had our own backpack that consisted of a water bottle, phone charger, and battery pack. The load started off pretty light for each of us, but as we traveled through the park the kids would buy things from stores and put it in their backpacks. Eventually, they were all complaining about how heavy their bags were. So our magical trip quickly turned into kids gripping and me saying “ I told you that you didn’t need to buy that.” My husband however saved the day and said “just give it to me I’ll carry it for you.” So the kids started pawning their things off on him, and all was well again. I’m not even kidding when I tell you that bag he was carrying weighed 20 pounds or more. He didn’t complain one time, he just carried that extra weight because he loves them. He took their burdens, and packed them around all day so they could have peace and joy.

Jesus wants to do that exact same thing for us. He sees that we are weighed down by unnecessary burdens. He knows that we are trying to carry heavy things that we don’t need to. But Jesus says, “Just give it to me, I’ll carry it for you.” Are you packing your life with things you don’t need to carry? Maybe it’s the worry about tomorrow, the guilt from yesterday, or the pressure to be perfect today. Whatever it is, Jesus invites us to let go and trust Him. He promises that when we give our burdens to Him, we’ll find rest for our souls.

Prayer for the Day

God what are you  showing me?  What am I going to do about it?

God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
