Read The Daily
“Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” (Galatians 5:25)
We focused a ton on Galatians 5 this week, but maybe take a moment and read The Daily above again. I had a plan to surprise my wife on election day but taking her to Lake Vesuvius to hike around the lake. I know, I know…I’m a romantic. Now, I’m not what you’d call an “outdoorsy” person, but I figured I’d give it a shot. My wife loves the trail so I thought she knew them like the back of her hand. As we started, she said, “Just follow me, and we’ll take the best path.” But here’s the thing about me: I’m a hiking rebel. About 20 minutes in, we didn’t think we could see where the trail continued so I said, “oh it’s definitely to the right”.
Well, it didn’t take long for my shortcut to turn into a detour. The “path” I saw quickly became a mess of thorns and loose rocks, and I ended up jumping logs and crawling in the dirt, stuck, tired, and frustrated. Maybe that’s a good picture of what it means to follow Jesus. He doesn’t just give us directions and say, “Good luck.” He’s the Good Shepherd aka Trail Gudie, walking the path with us, leading us through every step. When we follow His lead, we experience His rest, His guidance, and His peace. But when we try to take shortcuts or forge our own way, we end up stuck and frustrated, wondering why things aren’t working out. Paul reminds us in Galatians 5:25 that since we live by the Spirit, we’re called to keep in step with Him. It’s not about running ahead or dragging behind. It’s about walking with Him, trusting that His pace and His path are exactly what we need.
The Spirit-led life isn’t about fixing yourself or forging your own way. It’s about trusting the One who knows the way.
Prayer for the Day
God what are you showing me? What am I going to do about it?
God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
