“You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail.” (Proverbs 19:21)

In Christmas Vacation, Clark Griswold has meticulously planned every detail of his perfect family Christmas: the house lights will outshine the neighbors, the family dinner will be flawless, and everyone will be merry and bright. But as we know, nothing goes according to plan. From tangled lights to a dry turkey, Clark’s “perfect” plans spiral into chaos. His frustration grows as he clings to his ideal vision, unable to let go of what he thinks Christmas should look like.

How often do we find ourselves like Clark Griswold, trying to manufacture the perfect life? We plan everything down to the smallest detail, hoping to control the outcome. But Proverbs 19:21 reminds us that while we can make plans, it’s God’s purpose that will prevail. This truth doesn’t mean our plans are meaningless; it means they’re secondary to something better—God’s purpose. When life doesn’t go as planned, we have a choice. We can hold tightly to our expectations and let frustration consume us, or we can trust God’s greater purpose, knowing He works all things together for our good (Romans 8:28). The joy of Christmas isn’t found in executing our plans flawlessly but in remembering that God’s perfect plan brought Jesus to earth. His plan wasn’t flashy or grand by human standards—a stable, not a palace—but it fulfilled the greatest purpose: redeeming us through His Son.  Don’t forget…True peace comes not from perfect plans but from trusting in God’s perfect purpose.

Prayer for the Day

God what are you  showing me?  What am I going to do about it?

God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
