“It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts 20:35)
Post by Alisha Miller
My sister-in-law Kala called me right before Christmas, and said there was a single mom that needed help to provide gifts for her son. She told me she couldn’t stop thinking about them, and she wanted to help. She reached out to the woman and found out clothing sizes, favorite snacks and toys the little boy would like. Kala started making phone calls to family and friends, and by the end of the day she had an entire garbage bag full of Christmas gifts for the little boy. She even put a gift bag together for the mom to open on Christmas. When she met with the mom, she instantly started to cry. She hugged Kala, and told her thank you over and over. The mom explained that she didn’t know what she would’ve done without her help. She said her husband had left a couple years before, and they haven’t had any contact with him at all. She said she was working two jobs just to pay the bills, and Christmas wasn’t going to happen without a miracle. She told Kala she was so thankful for her being the miracle they needed.
George Bailey thought his life didn’t matter until he saw the ripple effect of his giving. His sacrifices, kindness, and love shaped the lives of everyone in Bedford Falls. In the same way, Jesus invites us to find joy, not in what we keep, but in what we give.
Giving isn’t just about gifts under a tree. It’s about pouring love, encouragement, and time into the people around us. When we live generously, we reflect God’s love and discover the deeper meaning of life. This Christmas season, think about how you can give—not just materially, but with your heart.
Prayer for the Day
God what are you showing me? What am I going to do about it?
God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
