Living Loved  | Thursday – Week 1

Take a Moment

Ask God what He wants to show you before reading today

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! (1 John 3:1)

Both of my kids are now out of the house and living on campus where they attend college.  During the week my wife and I are empty nesters.  Granted, they do come home when they want me to fill up their tanks for free or take them out to eat.  However, one of the things I miss the most during the week is late at night when they used to come into the living room and just start talking to me.  So now do you know what I do?  It’s kind of embarassing, but I’ve found myself just looking at their pictures on the fridge and smiling.

Do you ever feel unloved? Like you don’t quite measure up to the standards of others? That no matter how hard you try, you just can’t seem to gain anyone’s full approval?  Many of us go through life feeling this way. We strive for success, thinking achievement will finally earn us the love and acceptance we crave. We blame ourselves for mistakes, believing deep down that if we were loveable, we wouldn’t make them.

But God sees you differently. His love for you has nothing to do with your performance. The Bible says that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). We are loved simply because of who God is, not because of anything we have done.  You have been adopted into God’s family. You are His beloved child. Regardless of what others say about you or even what you think about yourself, you are fully known and unconditionally loved by your Heavenly Father. He delights in you! You bring Him joy simply by being His.

God actually looks at your picture on His fridge and smiles.

Rest in that truth today. You are a dearly loved child of God. Release feelings of inadequacy and embrace your true identity. You belong to Him!

Prayer for the Day

God what are you  showing me?  What am I going to do about it?

God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
