Slow Down and See God

“Be still, and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10

I’ll be honest, sitting still is something I struggle with. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy relaxing when I can. I love sitting on the porch swing (when it’s warm enough!), reading a book on my Kindle, and watching my kids play outside.
But when there’s work to be done, I can’t sit still. The reality is that many of the tasks I think are urgent are really just things I’ve created in my head. My kids can be actively playing with toys and I still feel the urge to pick up behind them. With three boys under 10, I’ll be the first to admit that my standards for a clean house are high (maybe too high).
My husband has to remind me a lot to just & “chill”. Don’t tell him I said this, but he’s right. If I let myself constantly worry about the messes, rush to clean up, and forget to spend time with my family, I miss the little moments. I miss the laughter, the fun, and the memories being made right in front of me.
Jesus never seemed to be in a hurry, even when everyone around Him was. He knew the value of slowing down and being present. And that’s exactly what He invites us to do. To sit still. To take a breath. To recognize that life is not just about getting things done—it’s about being with God and those we love.
He knew that hurry kills intimacy—with God and with others
When we’re always rushing, we miss the moments that matter. Impatience robs us of peace, but stillness restores it.
What if today, instead of rushing through your to-do list, you slowed down long enough to see God in your everyday life? What if, instead of fighting the waiting, you embraced it as an opportunity to trust Him more? When you slow down, you don’t just see life differently—you see God differently.
Prayer for the Day
God what are you showing me? What am I going to do about it?
God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?

Early on Sunday morning, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. She ran and found Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. She said, “They have taken the Lord’s body out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!” Peter and the other disciple started out for the tomb. They were both running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He stooped and looked in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he didn’t go in. Then Simon Peter arrived and went inside. He also noticed the linen wrappings lying there, while the cloth that had covered Jesus’ head was folded up and lying apart from the other wrappings. Then the disciple who had reached the tomb first also went in, and he saw and believed— for until then they still hadn’t understood the Scriptures that said Jesus must rise from the dead. Then they went home. John 20:1-10
I can hardly believe the report about the sexual immorality going on among you—something that even pagans don’t do. I am told that a man in your church is living in sin with his stepmother. You are so proud of yourselves, but you should be mourning in sorrow and shame. And you should remove this man from your fellowship. Even though I am not with you in person, I am with you in the Spirit. And as though I were there, I have already passed judgment on this man in the name of the Lord Jesus. You must call a meeting of the church. I will be present with you in spirit, and so will the power of our Lord Jesus. Then you must throw this man out and hand him over to Satan so that his sinful nature will be destroyed and he himself will be saved on the day the Lord returns. Your boasting about this is terrible. Don’t you realize that this sin is like a little yeast that spreads through the whole batch of dough? Get rid of the old “yeast” by removing this wicked person from among you. Then you will be like a fresh batch of dough made without yeast, which is what you really are. Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed for us. So let us celebrate the festival, not with the old bread of wickedness and evil, but with the new bread of sincerity and truth. When I wrote to you before, I told you not to associate with people who indulge in sexual sin. But I wasn’t talking about unbelievers who indulge in sexual sin, or are greedy, or cheat people, or worship idols. You would have to leave this world to avoid people like that. I meant that you are not to associate with anyone who claims to be a believer yet indulges in sexual sin, or is greedy, or worships idols, or is abusive, or is a drunkard, or cheats people. Don’t even eat with such people. It isn’t my responsibility to judge outsiders, but it certainly is your responsibility to judge those inside the church who are sinning. God will judge those on the outside; but as the Scriptures say, “You must remove the evil person from among you.” 1 Corinthians 5:1-13
