Read The New Testament In A Year
4 x 6 Plan | Read:Â Mark 4:26-41Â & 1 Corinthians 10:23-33
Jesus also said, âThe Kingdom of God is like a farmer who scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, while heâs asleep or awake, the seed sprouts and grows, but he does not understand how it happens. The earth produces the crops on its own. First a leaf blade pushes through, then the heads of wheat are formed, and finally the grain ripens. And as soon as the grain is ready, the farmer comes and harvests it with a sickle, for the harvest time has come.â Jesus said, âHow can I describe the Kingdom of God? What story should I use to illustrate it? It is like a mustard seed planted in the ground. It is the smallest of all seeds, but it becomes the largest of all garden plants; it grows long branches, and birds can make nests in its shade.â Jesus used many similar stories and illustrations to teach the people as much as they could understand. In fact, in his public ministry he never taught without using parables; but afterward, when he was alone with his disciples, he explained everything to them. As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, âLetâs cross to the other side of the lake.â So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed). But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water. Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, âTeacher, donât you care that weâre going to drown?â When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, âSilence! Be still!â Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. Then he asked them, âWhy are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?â The disciples were absolutely terrified. âWho is this man?â they asked each other. âEven the wind and waves obey him!â Mark 4:26-41
You say, âI am allowed to do anythingââbut not everything is good for you. You say, âI am allowed to do anythingââbut not everything is beneficial. Donât be concerned for your own good but for the good of others. So you may eat any meat that is sold in the marketplace without raising questions of conscience. For âthe earth is the LORDâs, and everything in it.â If someone who isnât a believer asks you home for dinner, accept the invitation if you want to. Eat whatever is offered to you without raising questions of conscience. (But suppose someone tells you, âThis meat was offered to an idol.â Donât eat it, out of consideration for the conscience of the one who told you. It might not be a matter of conscience for you, but it is for the other person.) For why should my freedom be limited by what someone else thinks? If I can thank God for the food and enjoy it, why should I be condemned for eating it? So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. Donât give offense to Jews or Gentiles or the church of God. I, too, try to please everyone in everything I do. I donât just do what is best for me; I do what is best for others so that many may be saved. 1 Corinthians 10:23-33
