“Love each other as I have loved you.” (John 15:12)
We host a small group in our home every Wednesday. We have a collection of teachers, judges, coaches, firemen, engineers…now that I think about it, we are basically the band the Village People. Here’s how a typical group works out. First, people come in and eat a meal together and hang out. You’ll see different groups gather in different places in the house. Then after about 30 to 45 minutes, we’ll see how everyone is doing, encourage everyone to be outward focused and then read something from the Bible and discuss it. Now…can I let you in on a secret? People are lively, talking and laughing while we eat. Then when it becomes “Bible time” many of those same people don’t talk as much. It becomes much more quiet. This used to bother me until I realized that one of the most important things that can happen in my home is for people to simply know and care for each other. So many times, people have stayed for hours afterwards to just hang out or because they are dealing with some really tough things.
When it comes to living the Epic Life together, relationships are key. Jesus commands us to “love each other” in the same selfless way He loved us. This kind of radical love creates a warm, welcoming environment for growth and discipleship. Within Godly relationships, we can share openly, ask hard questions, confess struggles, and spur one another on. Just as I’ve watched several people experience unconditional welcome in our group, we all long to know that same belonging within a community of Jesus followers.
As we build relational environments where discipleship can thrive, let’s treat one another with patient understanding and sincere interest. Our love for each other can melt away fear, build trust, and pave the way for life transformation.
Prayer for the Day
God what are you showing me? What am I going to do about it?
God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
