This will probably come as a shocker but my wife’s car seems to always be on empty. The conversations that we have truly amaze me. Me: Let’s take your car, how much gas does it have? Her: I don’t know. You mean to tell me you don’t know if the vehicle you drive is full, empty, half-tank? It may be one of the great mysteries that I’ll never figure out this side of heaven. Maybe you refuse to ever allow your vehicle to drop below half a tank (like all good God-fearing people do) or maybe you like to live on the edge like Kramer on Seinfeld see how far below the needle can go below empty. Either way, without gas, you aren’t going anywhere.

In our spiritual journey, prayer is the fuel that keeps us moving forward. Just like forgetting to check the gas tank, neglecting prayer leaves us sputtering with empty souls. But when we continually “fill up” through the up rhythms of growing in grace, we gain direction, strength, and power for each mile. Jesus modeled a lifestyle of constantly connecting with the Father. Before major decisions, miracles, and challenges, He prayed. He knew prayer was the source of spiritual fuel.

Let’s be intentional about monitoring our “prayer gauge” daily. Taking time to ask, seek and knock keeps our tank full and empowers us to live the Epic Life. We never have to sputter or stall out, because God promises His Spirit is always available to fill us when we pray.

God what are you showing me? What am I going to do about it?

God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
