What was Jesus’ strategy to change the world? I like to summarize it with 3 R’s. Reach, Restore and Reproduce. As we start with Reach, I love this quote: “If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion”
I’ve been involved in a ton of different types of outreach through our church over the last 17 years. I love showing compassion and love to people when they least expect it and sometimes even feel like they least deserve it. I think we were all designed to practice love and compassion every single day in the random aspects of life. I also think we don’t realize the power of showing up consistently for people that God has put in our path where we work, live, hangout or go to school. The key is to try to show up consistently, whether it’s my neighbor who’s lonely and needs a friend or a group of kids each week in an after school program. When you do that, walls start to come down. The simplest acts of service opened doors to build real relationships. Through those relationships, lives were changed, including mine!
God’s heart is to reach people far from Him with the message of His love. How do we really do that on a day to day basis though? We do what Jesus did. We Listen, Eat and Serve others in the normal day to day moments. Jesus wants to meet every person exactly where they are at. We have the amazing privilege of joining Him in this mission to reach the world around us. Who has God placed in your path for you to reach out to with compassion today?
Prayer for the Day
God what are you showing me? What am I going to do about it?
God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
