“Philip found Nathanael and told him, ‘We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.’” (John 1:45)

The movie “When the Game Stands Tall” is about football coach Bob Ladouceur and his record 151-game winning streak from 1992–2003 at De La Salle High School of Concord, California.  That means he didn’t lose a game for over 10 years!  After the movie, I started looking more into Coach Ladouceur’s record and philosophy.  He turned a once dormant program into a national power, coached for 33 seasons from 1979 to 2012 and left the nation’s career leader in winning percentage at . 934 with an astonishing record of 399 wins, 25 losses and three ties.  The most impressive thing for me was his system as a leader.  He would have each player come up with a weekly goal and then they all had one accountability partner that they had to check in with.  Football or not, there is incredible power in looking out and being responsible for others. I wonder the impact we could all have if we thought through who might be our “One”?

When Philip met Jesus, he was so excited that he immediately went to find his friend Nathanael to tell him the good news. Sharing with “his one” friend led Nathanael to follow Jesus too!

God places people in our lives—friends, family, co-workers, neighbors. Could God be calling you to focus on reaching and restoring just one person? Begin praying for opportunities to share with your one. Look for open doors to listen, serve, and share your story. You never know what ripple effect God might have in mind when you share with your one.

Prayer for the Day

God what are you  showing me?  What am I going to do about it?

God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
