“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13)
A few of my friends are currently reading through a book called Hero Maker. I think of Bob Buford every time I hear the word Hero Maker. This was an article written about him after he passed away:
Bob never wanted the limelight. He absolutely lived out the words he championed. He would say, “I’m the catapult, you’re the plane” and “you can do it, how can I help?” and “my fruit grows on other people’s trees.” He simply wanted to do for others what his mentor did for him: come alongside others and give them permission and encouragement to be and do all that God made them for, and to provide accountability for results. As he would say to me frequently, “I just want to pour gasoline on what [fill in name] is doing.” And he did that. He did that for me, and he did that for 1,000s of other leaders. Bob was a hero-maker.
One of my favorite concepts from him was the 100x impact. He wanted to leverage every 1 unit of input effort (dollars, effort, intellectual capital, whatever it was) into 100 units of output results. He called that 100x impact. He said frequently, “There is more to giving than feeling good. The joy is found in the results of transformed lives”.
So who are you walking with? Who can you coach through life like Jesus did with the disciples? Maybe it’s a volunteer you’re equipping for leadership. Maybe it’s an intern you’re mentoring. Or maybe it’s a young leader whose growth will reach heights you never will. Christ’s Kingdom will be multiplied as you empower others!
Prayer for the Day
God what are you showing me? What am I going to do about it?
God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
