“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them” (Matthew 18:20)
During Covid, I learned two important lessons. #1 My wife and son need to be around people as much as possible. #2 My daughter and myself are ok being alone for extended periods of time. As much as that’s true, I also learned that we all need people around us. I think that’s possibly one of the reasons that mental health issues climbed during the pandemic. None of us are truly good by ourselves. We need each other to grow and make a difference.
God designed you for a purpose bigger than just yourself. He wants to use you powerfully when you link arms with others who follow Jesus. Something supernatural happens when Christ-followers band together filled with the Holy Spirit for missions that help people. It’s like taps into spiritual dynamite! More gets done in less time with greater impact. You suddenly have each other’s backs, giftedness, encouragement. When one person gets tired, another picks up the slack. Just look across Scripture and church history— God seems to show up in a major way when small groups step out for Him together.
Here’s an action step for you this week. 1) If you’re already in a group, then start discussing what’s the best way to stay on mission (see the Gather, Group, Go Tool below). Should your group move forward as a Group with a Mission or a Group of Missionaries? 2) If you’re currently not in a group, ask God to guide you to a tribe, group or team united to make a difference in other people’s lives. Keep praying that prayer until God directs you in how to Gather, Group & Go. Watch what God will do…it will blow your mind!
