Aaron shared an illustration with two jars that was really good except for calling me the Carrot Top of pastors with all of my props lol. We have a jar with the bad things (rocks) & the good things. But honestly, it felt pretty accurate. Because some things drop into our lives that we never asked for. Financial stress. Health stuff. A relationship that got weird or painful. Exhaustion from always trying to measure up. Grief that just will not loosen its grip. Anxiety about tomorrow, the news, the world, the bills, the thing you keep replaying in your head at 1:17 in the morning.

And the problem is, one rock by itself might be manageable. But then another one drops. And another. And another. Before long, the jar is overflowing, and it is ugly, heavy, and loud. I know what that feels like. I know what it is to look at my life and think, “I need relief. I cannot keep carrying all of this.” And sometimes the hardest part is that once the jar gets heavy enough, it becomes almost impossible to look at anything else.

So maybe today does not need to start with pretending the rocks are not real. They are real. The stress is real. The grief is real. The stuck feeling is real. But maybe this is a day to simply notice what has been filling your attention. Not shame yourself for it. Not force a fake smile over it. Just recognize, with honesty and grace, that a heavy jar has a way of asking for your whole stare.
