“Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together” (Hebrews 10:24-25)
I grew up in the country, so most neighbors would be miles apart. I was fortunate enough to have another kid named Jeremiah that only lived about a quarter of a mile from my house. We were the same age and were best friends. I remember being at the store once with him and his family. Jeremiah was saying something and I finished his sentence. The cashier was impressed, but Jeremiah’s dad said, “it’s not impressive, they share the same brain”. Looking back, I realized he was insulting how unintelligent we both were lol. However, we could practically finish each other’s sentences and had endless inside jokes. A depth comes through consistency. The same goes for groups that commit to be consistently outward focused.
When our group decided to do a trunk or treat outreach this past halloween, I had several kids run up to hug me. Not because I’m someone you want to hug, but because they have seen me every single week for a couple of hours at our Kidz Club after school program.
Routines build relational equity. Consider starting a rhythm of gathering with others at a consistent place—even if just two people. Commit to get to know a group and listen for ways you can consistently be present through blessings and good deeds. Schedule it in your calendar to ensure it actually happens. Then watch relationships and impact deepen week-by-week!
Prayer for the Day
God what are you showing me? What am I going to do about it?
God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
