“The things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others” (2 Timothy 2:2)
My son was fortunate enough to be on a high school football team that played in 3 state championship games. He was sadly also unfortunate enough to lose 3 state championship games. It was painful to watch his team lose his senior year. It was also painful to watch a group of seniors have to sit in a room and be interviewed immediately after the loss. One of our players’ voices started to break when they asked him a question. It was tough to watch because I’d never seen him show any emotion throughout all his years of playing with my son. What I loved most was his quote, “The seniors told us as Freshmen to make sure we leave the program better when we leave”. I think that lesson applies to every aspect of our lives. Are we doing things just for us, or are we thinking through how it’s going to affect the next group or generation?
Picture a stone making countless ripples across a giant lake. We were also meant to create an expanding “ripple effect” of God’s message and blessings to the world with a group of people. But to truly leave it better, we have to think through multiplication. As you grow in skill, understanding and passion, raise up other groups passing the baton.
Give your life away through investing in a few faithful friends and empower them to lead as well. Coach them, prepare them, encourage them, believe in them– then set them sail to pass on what they’ve received. Guide your “Timothys” to teach faithful people who can teach others. That’s a spiritual legacy that lasts beyond your years!
Prayer for the Day
God what are you showing me? What am I going to do about it?
God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
