2X2 Goal Tool

VIEW/PRINT WEEKLY GUIDE

The goal of discipleship is to help others live and love like Jesus as He lives in them. As disciples, we find our purpose in two words: success and succession.

Success is when we maximize the gifts that God has given each of us. We steward our talents, resources, and opportunities to glorify God and advance His Kingdom. We bloom where we are planted, whether as a parent, teacher, engineer, artist, or entrepreneur.

Yet true success also includes succession. Succession is when we intentionally multiply our lives into others, passing on what God has given us. Just as Jesus commissioned his disciples to make disciples, he calls us to do the same. The Kingdom advances exponentially when each disciple makes disciples

The 2×2 Principle

Jesus modeled this intentional investment in just twelve disciples, giving us a simple multiplication strategy we call the 2×2. He poured deeply into his inner circle of Peter, James, and John. Through modeling, coaching, and hands-on ministry, he equipped them to carry on his work.

We follow Jesus’ example when we personally invest in 2-5 people at a time, meeting consistently for building relationships and helping each other to grow in the good news of the gospel. As these disciples grow in maturity and competence, we release them to do the same with others. Imagine the exponential impact if this process repeated just twice a year!

Jesus’ disciples “turned the world upside down” (Acts 17:6). We continue their legacy when we steward the gifts, talents, and opportunities God has given each of us to develop generations of wholehearted disciples. What might God do through even one disciple-maker fully surrendered to him?
