You’ve Got SWAG: Be a Bright Light in a Dark World
The Tri-State area faces huge challenges. Our poverty, obesity, depression and addiction rates rank among the worst in the nation. The darkness feels heavy at times. But we have hope – God calls each of us to be a bright light! Jesus came into a world filled with pain and showed a different way. Though He was King, He served the hurting and broken with compassion. When we follow His model of service and generosity through simple acts of SWAG, we reflect His light. A few kind words, helping hands or small gifts can pierce the darkness like rays of sunshine.
What if each of us committed to serve at least one person each week? Picture the transformation if our community was filled with little acts of love! Don’t try to shine alone. Get friends and your small group involved. Make SWAG a rhythm. Skip the agenda and just bless others. The Tri-State feels dark, but imagine if we were covered with pinpricks of light! Our collective spark can illuminate the darkness. So put on your apron, grab your SWAG and light up the world around you!
What’s SWAG?
Serve others with Words, Actions or Gifts
This acronym is an easy way to remember to put others first like Jesus did. Here are some ideas to get started:
Words
Send an encouraging text
Write a thank you note
Tell someone you appreciate them
Actions
Help with a chore or errand
Cook a meal for someone
Offer to babysit
Gifts
Send flowers or a care package
Give a gift card for coffee or food
Donate to a cause they care about
Start by thinking of one person you could bless this week. Make notes in your phone with simple ways you can serve them. Small acts of service done with love can change lives! As Mother Teresa said:
“Small things done with great love will change the world.”
