Listen instead of reading

Take a Moment

Ask God what He wants to show you before reading today

Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. 25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. (Hebrews 10:24-25)

I spent 4 years in college studying chemistry and physics to be a teacher.  Right before graduation, I even had to take a Praxis exam to prove I was proficient and knowledgeable. You want to know what I really learned the first few weeks of teaching advanced Organic Chemistry and Physics to juniors and seniors? I didn’t know nearly as much as I thought.  It was a valuable lesson.

I realized the most important part was not what I had learned but how to help others to learn the same stuff. It was a game changer.  As the writer of the letter to the Hebrew church states, “stir up one another” and “encourage one another.”  This was the lesson I learned my first year of teaching:

We grow the most when we help someone else grow.

This past week at C3, we talked about how you need a Who, then a Crew and finally a Do.  We all want to focus on what “we need to learn or do”, but maybe the key is to start focusing on how to help others with what they need to learn and do.

When you assist someone else in their spiritual development, it shows that you are maturing and growing in your relationship with God. When we make our faith and mission about how we can help others, we find ourselves refreshed, our faith hydrated, and we begin to flourish and grow. When we help someone else take a step, our own faith and walk with God come alive! The irony of helping someone else take a step is that it is the most maturing and growing action you can take in your own life.

Prayer for the Day

God what are you  showing me?  What am I going to do about it?

God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
