Obedience is important to God, and it was central to the spiritual lives of the Israelites. However, the order of things was important and can be seen in how the Israelites teach their children about obedience. First, remind them that they were slave, then how God gave them new life, and, finally, they obey. We can’t obey our way to new life. God is the one who offers us salvation through faith in Him, and, when we become followers, the only proper response is to obey. Spend a few minutes today to thank God for loving you enough to send His Son to die on the cross for your sin and ask Him to help you to respond with obedience to Him.
