Bible In A Year | Read: 1 Corinthians 2
1 And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. 2 For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 3 I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. 4 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, 5so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power. 1 Corinthians 2:1-4
Overview of Chapter
Paul is contrasting human wisdom and wisdom that comes from God. Paul was highly educated and could have impressed everyone with everything he knew, but instead focused on Jesus. Human wisdom without godly wisdom is a dangerous thing. That’s what the people who ordered Jesus’ death were like. Paul isn’t opposed to a good education, but spiritual wisdom is far more important.
Spiritual wisdom should always take priority over human wisdom in our decision-making. Human wisdom is self-centered; spiritual wisdom is God- and others-centered. Which one drives your reactions?
