“I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.” (Genesis 12:2)
Some have said that I’m a little competitive. Actually the people that know me the best, would say that I’ve got a real issue trying to beat everyone at everything. What I think is awesome, most see as a weird and unhealthy sickness.
But what if I told you that God actually wants you to be great? I just think how God defines greatness is different than most of our definitions. According to Jesus, the greatest always serve. He even says in Mark chapter 10, For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Jesus showed us that servanthood is a mark of greatness, not weakness. When we serve others, we reflect God’s heart of compassion and care. So how does greatness and blessing go together?
We see the correlation from the very beginning, God’s plan has been to bless us so we can bless others. He promised Abraham that in blessing him, he would become a blessing. As God’s children, we are recipients of His lavish blessings – forgiveness, family, finances, talents. But these aren’t just for us. We’re called to be conduits of blessing, not reservoirs. We’re not designed to horde God’s gifts but to share them. Pray that God shows you how to leverage what you’ve been given to serve and bless others. The more we serve, the greater we become in God’s economy.
Prayer for the Day
God what are you showing me? What am I going to do about it?
God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
