“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.” (Proverbs 3:27)
Did you know that the Tri-State consistently ranks as one of the worst places to live in the United States? We rank really high in depression, mental health disorders, obesity, heart disease, poverty levels and a myriad of other social issues. A friend of mine grew up in Illinois and moved down here in college. I remember when we first started C3, she said she was driving through the area and thought, “this place is really dark and depressing.”
That quote may discourage some, but it motivates me. Why? Because I think we are in one of the greatest mission fields to be a blessing to our community. When it’s really dark, it doesn’t take much light to light up everything. We often feel our service doesn’t matter if it’s not grand in scale. But to those around us, small acts can leave a lifelong impact. Holding open a door, sending an encouraging note, bringing a meal to someone who’s sick – these simple gestures often touch others deeply. Don’t underestimate small acts of service. Small acts of service make a meaningful difference.
If I haven’t sold you yet, think about this. What if hundreds of people decided to do this every single day? Imagine the impact of literally hundreds of people being on the receiving end of a listening ear, sharing a meal, sharing an encouraging word, a random act of kindness or a small thoughtful gift! It will literally change the world one person at a time. Ask God to show you how through little efforts you can make a big difference right where you are. If small acts make a meaningful difference, then hundreds of small acts will make all the difference.
Prayer for the Day
God what are you showing me? What am I going to do about it?
God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
