“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:35)

How could you prove that you are a true Jesus follower? Sadly, I think we as the church have messed this up. We think we prove it by how “right” we are on some political or spiritual issue. Or we prove we are His followers by not hanging out with others who don’t agree or believe like we do (even though Jesus seemed to live in the polar opposite by eating and drinking with many outcasts).

“I wonder if it’s confusing that we claim to have so much passion for Jesus yet so little compassion for people?”

Thankfully, Jesus doesn’t leave us guessing on what it looks like and how we prove it to a world that may even dislike or disagree with us. We prove it with our love for one another. For Jesus’ followers, this was way more caught than taught too. Jesus simply spent time with people, met pressing needs, and treated others with compassion. When we humbly love those around us, His Spirit shines through. People will know we follow Jesus by our genuine love.

Prayer for the Day

God what are you showing me? What am I going to do about it?

God help me to see one person that I can serve through a kind word, random act of kindness, or simple gift today?
